SUMMARY:

The Senior Systems Engineer is a position in the Lightspeed Systems Operations Department, with responsibilities of supporting customers on a variety of complex technical issues that are often outside the scope of our products. This document details many of the required duties and responsibilities necessary for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are the essential functions of the position. The list is not exhaustive, and may be supplemented as necessary.

  • Communicates well with internal and external customers and thrives in a team environment.
  • Supports customers with complex networks. Includes network infrastructure, configuration and design as well as on-going technical support.
  • Provides direct assistance to internal staff in areas of network design and configuration as well as high-level product support.
  • Interprets customer’s technical requirements - asking astute questions and listening to understand, anticipate and exceed their needs.
  • Provides product education to customers and internal staff.
  • Makes technical presentations and demonstrates how the product will meet client needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

The following are the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities preferred or required to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree and/or technical certifications preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Extensive understanding of all Lightspeed products.
  • Strong technology aptitude, including configuration of complex networking environments.
  • Strong familiarity with firewall, routing and switching technologies.
  • Strong familiarity with various network directory services.
  • Previous network administrator experience in a K-12 environment is preferred.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, KEY BEHAVIORS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to clearly document and record information.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent telephone communication skills
  • Ability to give presentations to small and large groups.
  • Ability to explain technology in simplistic terms.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical demands typical of an office environment including sitting, stooping/kneeling, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing and seeing.

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
