SUMMARY:

The Technical Writer is a position in the Lightspeed Systems Product Development organization. The Technical Writer is responsible for managing all aspects of product and services documentation, such as application help, product administrator and user administrator guides, product training materials, and corporate communications. This position will require interaction with developers, other employees, and software management in order to perform the necessary duties correctly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are the essential functions of the position. The list is not exhaustive, and may be supplemented as necessary.

  • Research information from multiple sources, including product documentation, product specifications, and interviews with subject matter experts and users
  • Develop, review, edit, and publish product documentation, including printed and web-based user manuals, application help, knowledgebase articles, and training materials for Lightspeed customers, in a format appropriate for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop and maintain technical content in web-based customer support portal
  • Assist other corporate departments by providing technical documentation, training materials, modules and/or classes for customers and Lightspeed employees, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, or related field
  • Previous experience and published works as a technical writer

SKILLS, ABILITIES, KEY BEHAVIORS:

  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Intermediate or expert skills with technical publication tools such as MS Office, Acrobat, FrameMaker, Author-It, RoboHELP, as well as image editing, spreadsheet, presentation, layout, web design, and content management applications
  • Familiarity with hardware, operating systems and applications for server, desktop, and mobile platforms, including Windows, Macintosh, Linux, iOS, and Android
  • Basic knowledge of IP networking and protocols, firewalls, email, network security, and social media
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Excellent management, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to install, navigate and document processes requiring non-Microsoft operating systems and products routinely used with Lightspeed products and services.
  • Ability to work under pressure to deliver quality content under close deadlines.
