Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/2017\/11\/prweb14918919.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new data science department<\/a> discovered that, in Lightspeed partner schools, the average student makes more than 300 search queries every month.<\/p>\n<p>Our data science team wanted to know more \u2014 specifically, what are the most-visited websites in K-12 education. In their research, they found that the average student accesses about 1,400 websites per month.<\/p>\n<h3>\n<p>SO WHAT ARE K-12 STUDENTS\u2019 MOST-VISITED WEBSITES? HERE ARE THE TOP 30.<\/h3>\n<p>\u2013<\/p>\n<figure><picture> <!-- [if IE 9]><video style=\"display: none;\"><![endif]--><source type=\"image\/webp\" data-srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/top-sites-1-month-logo.png.webp\" \/><source type=\"image\/png\" data-srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/top-sites-1-month-logo.png\" \/><!-- [if IE 9]><\/video><![endif]--><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/top-sites-1-month-logo.png\" alt=\"A graph showing the top 30 sites visited students view\" width=\"940\" height=\"922\" data-aspectratio=\"1.01952277657\" data-parent-container=\".component__image__inner\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/top-sites-1-month-logo.png\" data-srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/top-sites-1-month-logo-300x294.png 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/top-sites-1-month-logo-600x589.png 600w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/top-sites-1-month-logo.png 940w\" \/> <\/picture><\/figure>\n<p>When we look at students\u2019 most-visited domains, we can see that Google continues to dominate the interest and focus of K-12 student education. Google.com is the most-visited website in K-12 education, with Google Docs in second place.<br \/>\nCurrently, Relay supports only the Google Chrome operating system, so it makes sense why so many students would utilize Google services. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lightspeedsystems.com\/blog\/147-million-student-searches-analyzed\/\">as we\u2019ve already noted<\/a>, Google services are incredibly popular with K-12 students, even those who don\u2019t use Chromebooks.<\/p>\n<p>Kahoot, a game-based learning platform, dominates student activity as the No. 3 most-visited site. Educational games and platforms continue to grow in popularity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationdive.com\/news\/value-of-game-based-learning-on-the-rise\/444046\/\">as their value increases over time.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The fifth-most-popular site students visit is YouTube. If left unblocked, YouTube can present challenges for children, parents and school personnel. Although there are millions of great educational videos available for K-12 students, it also opens doors to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2017\/11\/27\/566769570\/youtube-faces-increased-criticism-that-its-unsafe-for-kids\">distracting and inappropriate content.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, we surveyed the Lightspeed community and found that <a href=\"https:\/\/community.lightspeedsystems.com\/uncategorized\/block-youtube-for-students-try-smart-play\/\">23 percent of schools allow YouTube access<\/a> across all grade levels.<\/p>\n<p>Filtering and reporting on YouTube\u2019s encrypted video content is difficult. Using our comprehensive filtering database, we analyzed which categories of websites are popular among students.<\/p>\n<p>We found that students visit websites in the \u201ceducation\u201d category more often than any other category. The \u201csearch\u201d category ranks No. 2 for students, mainly through Google.com.<\/p>\n<p>Because some YouTube content can be inappropriate or unsafe in an educational setting, YouTube is categorized as \u201cmature,\u201d which explains why this category ranks No. 3.
