Lightspeed Systems Enhances Relay Filter with Online Activity Dashboard

New reports give schools essential insight into remote learning activity

Austin, TX, April 20, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Leading education technology solutions provider Lightspeed Systems (“Lightspeed” or “the Company”) today announced a new addition to its market-leading Relay Filter: an Online Activity Dashboard designed to give schools essential insights into the effectiveness of their remote learning programs.

Schools around the world have adopted online, remote learning programs to continue education in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. These programs involve students engaging in online learning from their homes, typically with a mix of virtual instructor-led sessions and self-directed assignments and activities.

With the shift to remote learning, the Relay Filter has proven an essential solution, giving schools the CIPA compliance and mobile content filtering they need to protect students anytime and anywhere.

In addition to the protection it provides, Relay Filter gives schools the most comprehensive and actionable reports on overall activity, specific activities like searches and videos, student safety, individual user activity, and more. With today’s update, schools gain new insights that are essential to the success of remote learning programs.

The new Online Activity Dashboard provides reports on:

  • Activity by time of day, including how much of that activity is educational in nature
  • Activity by day of week, including how much of that activity is educational in nature
  • Number of active students by hour of day
  • Number of active students by day of week
  • List of inactive students
  • % of students who have been active in the timeframe
  • Users with low educational use

These new reports will help schools ensure all students are engaging in remote learning, and identify students or situations that require additional follow-up. The dashboard can be viewed for an entire district, a school, or a single class or group, making information powerful and actionable for even the largest districts.

“Our development is always driven by the needs of schools,” shares Ian Swanson, Product Manager for Relay Filter. “When schools began closing due to COVID-19 we quickly shifted into overdrive, asking our customers about their challenges and brainstorming how we could help. The Online Activity Dashboard is the result of that collaboration between our development team and our school customers.”

The Online Activity Dashboard is included now for all Relay Filter customers.

For schools not currently using the Relay Filter, Lightspeed Systems is offering free extended evaluations of the solution through June 30, 2020. Learn more.

Lightspeed Systems Relay Protects Remote Learners Through COVID-19 Outbreak

Relay Filter protecting millions of students around the world as they learn from home

Austin, TX, April 09, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Relay Filter, the flagship solution from leading education technology solutions provider Lightspeed Systems (“Lightspeed” or “the Company”), is helping schools safely implement remote learning programs and protecting millions of students around the world as they learn from home.

With school buildings closed, more devices than ever are being used off the school campus for remote learning. Relay Filter, built for seamless cloud-based protection anytime and anywhere, keeps those learners and devices safe.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, school districts are benefiting from the powerful capabilities of Relay Filter, including:

  • Filtering and CIPA compliance on school devices
  • Support for every device and operating system
  • Protection from anywhere, off or on the school network
  • No hardware to set up and maintain
  • Powerful YouTube and video safety controls
  • Real-time AI monitoring and alerts to detect students at risk
  • Differentiated settings by group or time of day
  • Reporting on remote activity and usage

Since closures began last month, thousands of new schools have joined the 6,500 districts already using Relay Filter. The solution makes remote learning safer and more effective for schools:

“During these unprecedented times, Lightspeed was able to quickly provide us a filtering solution that our current provider could not. From the time Lightspeed activated our licenses, we had our filter polices in place in under a day.” – Dr. Tina Barrios, Polk County Schools (FL)

“During distance learning, Relay has been a vital tool for our school district to provide safe web-browsing off of campus with our district-issued technology. Relay has also been valuable for us to collect daily statistics on how students are engaging with our remote learning and evaluate ROI on the digital learning resources we are investing in.” – Anthony Padrnos, Osseo Area Schools (MN)

“Relay is helping to provide a safe e-learning environment for our students. As our Chromebooks leave the building for students to complete work at home, we know the filtering stays in place regardless of where the internet access comes from.” – Stacy Royster, Opelika City Schools (AL)

“Having Relay installed on our district devices allowed us to easily and confidently distribute Chromebooks to our 3-12 student population. Having Relay set up gives the district and parents a comfort to know our students are filtered and safe.” – Steven Thomaschefsky, School District of Waupaca (WI)

“Relay and Chromebooks are a seamless combination that have given us the ability to know our devices are filtered no matter where they are, or what network they are connected to. During the COVID-19 crisis, even though we were not formally a 1:1 district, Relay allowed us to check out Chromebooks to students with confidence, knowing they would be filtered.” – Simon Miller, Kellogg Joint School District (ID)

Amy Bennett, VP of Marketing at Lightspeed Systems, shares, “Schools around the world have closed to keep students safe. Relay Filter makes sure those students stay safe as they’re learning from home. We’re proud to be able to help schools and students through this dramatic shift in education.”

Last month, the Company announced that it would offer its market-leading classroom management and web filtering solutions free to schools impacted by the Coronavirus through the end of the school year.

Lightspeed Systems Recognized as Top Innovative Ed-Tech Solution Provider

Relay Platform Honored for Innovation Around Student Safety, Ed-Tech Analytics

Austin, TX, Feb. 19, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Leading education technology solutions provider Lightspeed Systems (“Lightspeed” or “the Company”), was recognized this week as a Top Innovative Ed-Tech Solution Provider by Enterprisetechsuccess Magazine in its annual special edition focused on ed-tech.

With the Relay Platform, Lightspeed Systems is using innovative new technology, from AI and machine learning to its patent-pending Smart Agents, to make technology use in schools safer and to better protect students – blocking inappropriate content, monitoring activity across all sites and platforms, alerting school personnel of safety risks, and reporting on all usage. With Relay, schools are able to keep device use focused on education and stay ahead of the game when it comes to student safety and productivity.

While the Relay Platform is a complete solution for 1:1 programs that provides filtering, student protection, device management, classroom management, and reporting, two primary components of the platform drove the designation of top innovative ed-tech solution: Safety Check student monitoring platform and Analytics app reporting.

As schools move to 1:1 programs and mobile technology becomes ubiquitous in classrooms, student safety is a growing concern. A key feature included with the Relay Filter, Safety Check uses advanced AI to monitor student activity and alert school personnel in real time of students at risk of violence to themselves or others, including suicide, self-harm, cyberbullying, and other forms of violence. This proactive approach helps schools keep students safe even as suicide rates among young people and incidents of school violence are on the rise.

With the increase in technology use and ed-tech spending, schools need data – about how devices and ed-tech resources are being utilized as well as how those various tools stack up against a growing body of regulations around student data privacy and security. Relay Analytics gives schools that powerful reporting platform with ROI, adoption, engagement, and privacy compliance reports for all apps, applications, web sites, and online tools in use – including unknown, or “rogue,” apps.

“We’re leading the way both in the number of students we protect and how long we’ve been partnering with schools to keep their technology use safe. Through our 20 year history helping schools and protecting students, we’ve always been agile and innovative – adapting to the latest technology and delivering new solutions and smarter ways for schools to solve their challenges,” shares Brian Thomas, President & CEO of Lightspeed Systems. “Now more than ever, the top challenge is student safety. Safety Check is saving students’ lives, and we’re very proud of the impact that technology is having. It’s an honored to be recognized for that innovation.”

Serving as a leading media and technology publication, Enterprisetechsuccess Magazine creates a platform to connect business and technology to its anticipated audience. Lightspeed Systems was recognized in its annual ed-tech special edition focused on Top Innovative Ed-Tech Solution Providers.

Lightspeed Systems Enhances Student Safety Features of its Relay Platform

New functionality of Relay’s Safety Check extends platform’s market leading position as most powerful student safety monitoring and alerting system

Austin, TX, Jan. 23, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —

At BETT Show 2020 this week, Lightspeed Systems (“Lightspeed” or “the Company”), a leading ed-tech solutions provider, announced key enhancements to Safety Check, which is a next generation feature of the Company’s Relay platform, furthering the Company’s mission to better protect K-12 students.

Originally released in August 2019, Safety Check uses advanced AI to identify students whose web activity, including web searches, email, content within online documents and other activities, indicates they are at risk of self-harm or other dangers. Concerning activity triggers a real-time alert to a school’s designated contacts so they can quickly intervene, all reported and captured within Relay for investigation, resolution and trend reporting. For schools increasingly concerned about student violence and self-harm, Lightspeed has expanded the Safety Check feature to also monitor for new categories of activity such as violence, cyberbullying and advanced attempts to bypass content filtering. In addition, Safety Check now provides support for multiple operating systems across Mac and Windows devices as well as Chromebooks.

“Since our founding, it has been our mission to enhance student safety and maximize the benefits of education technology,” shares Brian Thomas, President and CEO of Lightspeed Systems. “As the importance of protecting, managing and analyzing student health and safety increases, we are committed to continuously innovating and improving our sophisticated, K-12-specific solutions. With the updates we have made to further differentiate Safety Check and expand the capabilities of our offering across even more devices, we can help our customers enhance student safety and use technology to safeguard learning environments and protect and save lives.”

A survey of customers with early access to Safety Check revealed that more than 80% of included schools identified at-risk students through the feature. Today, schools using Relay with Safety Check continue to see benefits of the feature and have been able to identify concerns and intervene to proactively address issues.

Nicole Allien, Instructional Technologist at Caddo Parish Schools in [Shreveport, Louisiana], commented, “Safety Check has been an asset to our district. It has alerted us to issues we didn’t know our students had and has made a difference in those students’ lives.”

The Relay platform is a complete solution to filter, manage, monitor, protect, and analyze online activity in schools. Safety Check is included at no additional cost with the Relay Filter. For access to the latest Safety Check features, Relay customers can contact pm-Relay@lightspeedsystems.com.
