Lightspeed Alert Drives Life-Saving Interventions in Southeast School District

A Southeast school district is crediting Lightspeed with helping to prevent multiple student imminent self-harm and violence threats—intervening in moments when students were in crisis and actively searching for ways to harm themselves or others.

Staff estimate the district has been able to save at least ten students who were in the act of planning to self-harm.

“These weren’t just warning signs,” one administrator said. “They were in the moment—looking for a method, trying to figure out how to make it painless.”

Common searches for self-harm ranged from “how do I write a goodbye letter” to details about achieving a drug overdose. Each alert triggered an immediate response, routed to principals, counselors, and district leadership to ensure nothing is missed.

“It’s often the first time anyone realizes something’s wrong,” one staff member shared. “Some of these kids were completely off our radar. Other times, they’ve been quietly struggling, and we’re finally able to connect them with help.”

The district has also seen alerts related to potential threats of violence. In one instance, a student—angry after a disagreement with a teacher—searched how to blow up a school and how to build a bomb. The alert allowed staff to step in before the situation escalated.

While some students trigger alerts more than once, staff say each case gets the attention it needs. “Some kids need a different kind of support. But we’d never have known without these tools,” one administrator added. “Lightspeed is worth its weight in gold.” And for the students whose lives were saved, it made all the difference.
