FAQs
Can parents override district filtering policies?
No. Parent controls only apply during after-school and at-home hours, and only within the permissions IT explicitly grants. District policy is always the floor — parents can be more restrictive, never less.
How much ongoing work does this create for IT?
Very little. Administrators configure which settings are available to parents once. Weekly reports run automatically. Parents manage their own experience through the portal — that’s the point. Most districts see fewer inbound parent calls after enabling it, not more.
Does it work for students who take devices home?
Yes — that’s exactly what it’s designed for. Schedules, pauses, and category controls activate automatically based on context and time. School-day controls remain fully separate from the parent-configurable after-school settings.
What if we only want parents to see reports, not control anything?
Fully supported. Administrators can choose to only enable the weekly activity report instead of full Parent Portal access. Read-only reporting is also an option. You decide exactly what parents can see and what they can manage — it’s a granular permission model, not all-or-nothing.
Is the Parent Portal included with our current Lightspeed subscription?
The Parent Portal is included with Lightspeed Filter — there’s no additional license to buy. If your district already has Filter, enabling the portal is a configuration decision, not a procurement one.
